Condensation season!
The Condensation Season is upon us! If you are experiencing black mould in the corners of walls or windows, this is a sure sign you have a condensation problem.
Condensation is caused when too much moisture is trapped inside your house – this moisture is produced when cooking or bathing. But the moisture does not stay in the bathroom or kitchen – it travels around your home searching for the coldest surfaces where it condenses to form water droplets.
As these water droplets are pure, having been created by steam, they are the ideal environment for the black mould fungus to thrive.
It is a common mistake to try to fix the problem of condensation where you find the black mould – of course this should be cleaned off, but it will only return if you do not fix the SOURCE OF THE MOISTURE – usually this means making simple changes like closing the door when cooking or bathing and using extractor fans when possible. Also try to dry clothes outside or in a vented tumble dryer – clothes dried on a radiator will simply put more moisture back into your internal air.
